XLVII International Federation of Fe y Alegría Congress in Madrid

From 28 September to 1 October, Entreculturas will host the XLVII International Federation of Fe y Alegría Congress in Madrid under the title “Fe y Alegría, global movement. We educate on the borders”. An event that aims to raise awareness of Fe y Alegría as a global movement, advance global responses as a Federation at the borders, and be an inspiring space for the Federation itself, for each Fe y Alegría organisation, and for each person as a citizen of this global world. Just as in 2004, Entreculturas will hold its annual meeting at the same time as the Congress.

The event will be inaugurated by the Superior General of the Society of Jesus and will address topics including the current and future Fe y Alegría borders, strategies like becoming a global movement, and the increasingly important work focused on global citizenship. The topics will be addressed comprehensively and in coordination throughout each Congress space. The National Directors of the 22 Fe y Alegría organisations in Latin America, Europe, and Africa, along with work teams from Cambodia and India, will also be in attendance.

The first Congress event will be a youth meeting on Friday, 28 September, which will include the participation of the Fe y Alegría National Directors, the country delegates, the Federation team, and five youth representatives as proposed by the Fe y Alegría’s Generation 21 Network and young people from the Entreculturas Youth Solidarity Network.

This youth meeting aims to generate a unique moment for dialogue between Fe y Alegría representatives and young people within the proposed thematic framework, including a street event which will be celebrated in Madrid’s La Ventilla neighbourhood. The event will be led by young people and will include the participation of the Fe y Alegría National Directors and delegations.

The main Congress will be held on 29 and 30 September in El Escorial and will address the concept of borders as well as geographical, gender, and intergenerational issues that affect us. There will be a dialogue on how different Fe y Alegría organisations are responding to borders, including testimonies about new experiences, and the idea of what it means to be a global movement and how to generate global responses will be further explored.

Following the Congress weekend, an institutional event at the Palacio de Cibeles will be held on 1 October under the name “2030 Agenda: The challenge of an education that changes the world”. The event will address the importance of a transformative education, the construction of a global citizenship, the SDG 4, and the relevance of education in the new 2030 Agenda as well as the geographical contextualization of education from the perspective of different collectives. The purpose of this institutional event is to put SDG 4 on the public agenda after presenting the Action Plan for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Spain at the High Level Political Forum in July 2018, and in view of the celebration of this Forum in 2019, which will be dedicated to SDG 4.
